COPPER
Copper was the first metal man used for tools and implements, probably because copper, like gold and silver, is found in a pure state and can be beaten into shape even when cold. For thousands of years, copper has remained the only workable metal known, for gold was not only too scarce to be considered, but also too soft to be practical. Copper tools were probably used in building the great Egyptian pyramids.
When bronze, an alloy of copper and tin, was discovered, still greater quanti- tes of copper were mined. Brass, the most common copper alloy, usually contains from 59 to 95 percent copper. After the discovery of iron, copper was seldom used, except among semi-civilized people, until the present age of electricity.

BAKIR

MIGRATION OF BIRDS
Many animals spend their lives in one region (area) or even in one spot. Others travel widely. The most famous migrants are birds. The migration of birds has fascinated man since the very beginning of history.
No one knows with certainty why birds migrate and how they find their way back home. It seems as if (as though) they have an inborn instinct that tells them to fly off in a certain direction when winter approaches. Some birds were taken by airplane from their home to places 400 miles away. When they were set free, they flew back to their home.
To say that they have an instinct to find their home doesn't really explain the mystery. One theory is that birds can sense the magnetic fields that surround (encircle) the earth. Perhaps they direct themselves by these magnetic fields.

ARTIFICIAL RESPIRATION
There are times when an accident may stop a person's breathing. The most common incidents which may suspend (stop for a time) breathing are : drowning, electric shock, inhaling carbon monoxide gas, choking, and taking too many sleeping pills.
When breathing stops, a first aider should give the victim artificial respiration which causes air to enter and leave the victim's lungs. There are several ways (methods) to give artificial respiration. If breathing is seriously hindered lor any reason, the necessary amount of oxygen is unable to reach (get to) the body cells. Artificial respiration must be applied as soon as possible to keep the victim alive. The mouth-to-mouth method (kiss of life) is recommended for reviving both children and adults. The first aider, with his mouth tightly over the victim's mouth, blows at the rate of about 12 to 20 times a minute. While this method is applied, the victim's nose must be pinched shut.

THE FEELING OF INFERIORITY
Many young people are troubled (bothered) by the feeling that they are inferior to their companions (friends). They feel they lack money, clothes, talents, intellectual brilliance, or skill in sports. They are ashamed of their families' background because it is different from that of their friends'.
Young people react in different ways to this sense of being inferior. Some become shy, withdrawn, given to daydreaming. Others cover up by being loud, boastful, discourteous (unkind). Still a third group compensate for (make up for) their feeling of inferiority by always criticizing people. These feelings, can, if carried too far, give a personality great harm.

ANATOMY
Just as a car has an electric system, a fuel system, a brake system and so on, the body has its special systems for special functions. The body is usually divided into eight systems according to function.
There are three cavities (holes) in the body. Within these cavities many important organs are located. One cavity is enclosed by the skull and contains the brain. Another is the chest cavity, which contains the heart, lungs, and the tubes that lead to the lungs and stomach. Below the chest cavity is the cavity of the abdomen, containing the stomach, liver, intestines, pancreas, spleen and kidneys.
The skeletal system and the muscle systems form (make up) the framework of the body. The organs serving for breathing make up the respiratory system. The circulatory system transports digested food and other materials to all parts of the body. The digestive system digests food. The nervous system controls the muscles and enables us to see, hear, and think coordinating the activities of all the systems. The excretory system removes wastes from the body.

Solunuma hizmet eden organlar, solunum sistemini oluştururlar. Dolaşım sistemi sindirilmiş yiyecek ve diğer malzemeleri vücudun tüm parçalarına taşır. Sindirim sistemi, yiyeceği sindirir. Sinir sistemi, adaleleri kontrol eder ve bütün sistemlerin faaliyetlerini koordine ederek görmemizi, işitmemizi ve düşünmemizi sağlar. Boşaltma sistemi, artıkları vücuttan çıkarır.

NOISE POLLUTION
At 3:00 a.m. you are awakened by a siren or the loud sound of a horn. No sooner than you doze off (fall asleep), the sounds of vehicles and garbage collectors disturb your sleep once more. At 6:30 or 7:00 the alarm clock puts an end to your irregular night, and although you feel irritable and tired, you get up to start your day only to confront (face) the electric razor, the hair dryer, the morning news, the electric blender, a crying child, or a loud cry of a passing vendor (peddler). You leave the house only to hear hundreds more until you get back home to encounter (meet unexpectedly) the noises made at home.
Noise. It's everywhere, disturbing (bothering) your peace, jarring your nerves, damaging (injuring) your hearing, and contributing to a serious (grave) ailments and perhaps shortening your life.
There are many sounds that are beautiful, peaceful (calm), and aweinspiring. There are other sounds that are not necessarily beautiful, but which are acceptable by-products of human activity. Then there is noise, which, as someone once wrote, is any undesired (unwanted) sounu. It is sound at the wrong time and in the wrong place.
Millions and millions of people have already suffered noise-related hearing loss. When we are exposed to hazardous (dangerous) noise levels, noise injuries eventually destroy the delicate hair cells in the inner ear which detect the different frequencies of sound and transmit (conduct) them to the brain's auditory center.
Sound is measured in decibels. A prolonged noise level from 70 to 80 decibels puts a severe strain on the ears. A short period of more than 90 decibels can damage the hearing. Tiny hairs in the hearing mechanism, once destroyed by excessive (extreme) noise, never grow back. The damage is permanent. Common sources of noise are as follows : A vacuum cleaner registers about 85 decibels; a hair dryer 100; an electric shaver 90; a power mower 90 to 100; an electric blender 90 to 100; a jet plane at take off 150; and when the jet plane is at 500 feet 110 to 120; a motorcycle 85 to 110; and a typical disco 120.
Noise has been found to affect the nervous system, the endocrine system, the stomach and emotions. It also adversely affects the heart and blood vessels, causing high blood pressure and an increase in cholesterol level. It produces stress emotionally and physically. It is becoming increasingly recognized that the noises of civilization are partly responsible for the diseases of civilization.
